Bonjour les amis,

Thank you for the nice break. We hope everyone's summer is going swimmingly—meant quite literally in this heat. We return with a few changes to the menu for the summer. We are shifting from strictly French specialties to a pan-Mediterranean menu to help you all eat lightly and deliciously under these appetite-slaying temperatures. Also we are adding a weekly whole roast chicken with potatoes and a smoky-sweet roasted onion & garlic sauce for picnics or suppers on the run.

Here are the wines we recommend for this week's menu:
Domaine Lignières le Signal Corbières rouge 14.99—A big juicy mouthful with a pleasingly dry finish
Le Bois Jacou Loire Gamay 12.99—Light and flirtatious, a charming summer red to enjoy lightly chilled
Château de Pellehaut Harmonie de Gascogne blanc 11.99—Dry and herbaceous with fruit and flowers on the nose, but not a hint of sweetness—ah, summer!
Triennes Provence Rosé 14.99—A seamless hot-weather quaffer that also pairs well with food

about portion sizes...
We have had a flurry of recent questions from new-comers about our portion sizes and we thought our answers might be helpful to you long-timers, too, in deciding how much or many things to order.

Our main courses are intended to feed three adults or two adults and two pre-teen kids. When we make this claim we are imagining the main course as part of a menu that would include small portions of one or two vegetables and a salad and leave room for a small starter and some cheese or dessert after. This translates to about a half-pound portion per adult for the main courses and about a quarter-pound portion per person for the sides.

Eating this way—small portions of a large variety of foods—will provide you the greatest satisfaction from our menus and assure nutritional balance as well. Besides, many find that building courses into a menu enhances the enjoyment of each element of a meal while painlessly discouraging overeating. Win-win!

Bonne semaine & bon appétit!
